NEON (2013)

NEON is Vitne's debut album, released Dec. 3, 2013. The album consistently received highly positive ratings from critics, with Vitne and lead guitarist Julian Angel often being compared to the duo of Billy Idol and Steve Stevens. Melodic rock with a glam-metal and punk style mixed with elements of 80s synthrock, NEON packs a serious punch. Fans of 80s bands like Motley Crue, Billy Idol and KISS will enjoy this release.

A Note From Vitne about NEON:

NEON, the name, originated from when I was in SEKS.  I remember sitting in Steen's (lead guitarist) tiny little apartment with Even (bassist) showing them our new website and stuff.  We had barely even begun as a band, and I was already thinking about album number 2.  I said I thought an album called NEON would be cool, and I remember Steen saying something like "I don't know, man."  It makes me laugh thinking back on that.

So, when I started my solo thing as Vitne, naturally I thought of NEON.  This time instead of trying to sound like other artists like we somewhat did with SEKS and HART, I wanted to just do my own thing and see what happened.

I set out to record an album that I, personally, wanted to hear as a music fan.  I wanted to love the album and be able to throw it into the mix with other albums I love from other bands, primarily other 80s glam and punk.

Plain and simple, I really enjoy it.  My least favorite songs are "Royal Nights" and "Lick You Up" because those songs were originally SEKS songs, and the overall mood doesn't quite match my vision of Vitne.  Mostly "Lick You Up."  It's still a cool song though.  And actually, most people probably don't know this, but "Royal Nights" is originally a Golden Palace song that Alex Goss and I wrote together back in 2004.  It was a staple for us live.

As for favorites, I'd say "Destroyer," "To The Sky" and "Cruisin'" are some of my absolute favorite Vitne songs.  Another fun fact is that "Cruisin'" was another Golden Palace staple back in the day.  Alex and I wrote that in 2005 after listening to tons of Winger.  And I love "Rest in Peace" as it's subject is very close to my heart.

Basically, if you love 80s hair-metal and glam like I do, then NEON is right up your alley.  I love getting together with friends and listening to albums like Shout at the Devil, Rebel Yell, Flesh & Blood... it's just a good time.  Lots of big choruses and wild, shredding guitar.  That's what you'll find in NEON.
